Back in the day, the laundry room used to be shoved in a corner, in a closet or in the basement. Laundry rooms have been known to go unnoticed when designing your home. However, it is a hard-working room and an essential part of the home. Today an organized and functional laundry room is highly coveted.
A Multi-Functional Space
Laundry rooms today are multi-functional rooms with counter space for folding clothes,
doing art projects or wrapping presents. In fact, laundry rooms have ample cabinets for storage as well as sink cabinets with a deep porcelain sink to wash delicate items. As a result, there is no need for those ugly four-legged plastic laundry sinks of the past. Another unique way to create a multi-functional laundry room is to combine it with a mudroom, laundry room, and craft area.
Creating A Laundry Room Out Of A Small Space
There are a variety of creative ways to transform your tiny space into a laundry room haven that works for your specific needs. In fact, consider stacking a front load washer and dryer in a small space to create more storage in the room. Furthermore, investing in energy efficient washers and dryers is a great way to use less water and energy.
A Laundry Room Case Study
One of our clients had a large basement with a linoleum floor and sliding door to the backyard. Boxes and suitcases were scattered about everywhere and they wanted them off the floor and out of sight. We installed six (6) tall utility, thirty-six inches (36”) wide, cabinets with adjustable shelves and open shelves by the laundry area to store all their items.
A 10-inch deep porcelain sink was under mounted in a Corian countertop on a 27” base cabinet. In addition, a front-loading washer and dryer were installed with a Corian counter spanning over both appliances allowing room for clothes to be folded. From
the ceiling, horizontal rods were hung to hand garments to be dripped dry. They were delighted with their functional laundry and storage area.
